How to fix hinge holes on door.
You can plug the holes fred but that would leave visible patches on the inside of your door.
Remove the screws that hold the loose hinge leaf to the door jamb.
Hold until the glue starts to dry.
Spread carpenter s glue onto a 3 8 inch diameter x 1 inch long wood dowel and tap it into the hole until it s flush with the jamb.
Once the wood is the right size glue the inward facing side and then press it into place.
First on the errant stile rip a 1 8 deep rabbet the full width of the stile as shown above.
If the hinge leaf is recessed only at the bottom or the top insert a shim behind only part of the hinge leaf.
The wrong way is a temporary fix not cool.
The dowel i bought was 48 long so i cut off three pieces that were around 1 5 long.
Then just reinstall the hinges and you should be fine.
Then bore out the stripped holes with a 3 8 inch diameter bit.
This may include covering over any wood stains left by the hinge.
If the hinge and jamb are painted cut the paint around the leaf with a utility knife swing the leaf away from the jamb.
So try this fix that will be barely noticeable on the ends and edge of the stile.
Dry fit your dowels to make.

Fix it the right way not the wrong way.
For a quick fix you could take a toothpick wooden skewer or wooden golf tee with a little wood glue and gently hammer it into the screw holes to strengthen the wooden stile so that it will provide a better grip for the screws.

Take a plain piece of wood the width of your door and cut it down until it fits into the shape left by your former door hinge.
