Press the first piece of drywall in place on the wall and hold it for 30 seconds until it bonds with the concrete block. Have a friend hold the drywall in place and then screw it into the hat channels with an electric screw gun. Cut enough furring strips from 1 by 3 inch lumber with a circular saw to allow you to space them 16 inches apart for the entire width of the wall as measured from the center of each strip. Use concrete nails and a concrete nail gun to attach the hat channels to the wall after drawing a plumb line to make sure you ve spaced the hat channels properly for the size of drywall and insulation you re using.

If you re working with a ceiling start there and work your way down to the walls. Begin by marking plumb lines on the drywall that correspond to the hat channels below. Repeat for all drywall sheets. Remove all the trim from the exterior walls window and door casings baseboards crown molding you name it and rip the drywall and studs off the block walls.

Once all the drywall has been attached it s ready for finishing. Then to account for the foam s additional thickness add jamb extensions to the windows and doors and fur out around their openings. Step 2 install vertical furring strips every 16 inches on the cinder blocks using concrete screws to hold them in place. Hold a piece of drywall up to the wall and align it so each edge of the drywall sheet sits in the middle of the furring strips on either side.

Continue installing the drywall by repeating the process for the rest of the sheets. Hold a furring strip up to the ceiling leaving about 1 4 inch of space between the strip and the ceiling. Furring strips come in various widths and thicknesses and you may use dimensional 2 inch by 4 inch wall studs or thinner boards for furring.
